Attention! China plans to ease entry rules for foreign visitors

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has closed borders to foreign visitors, allowing only certain groups of foreign nationals to enter the country, such as those with certain work visas.

In recent months, regulations have been gradually eased, from the resumption of more direct flights between China and some countries to allowing foreign students with valid residence permits to enter China. China's quarantine of foreign arrivals has also been reduced.

According to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism news on September 19, in order to promote the development of border tourism and strengthen the management of border tourism, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in conjunction with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Public Security, the General Administration of Customs, the Immigration Bureau and other departments to study and draft the "border tourism management measures (revised draft for public comment)", is now open to the public for comment.

China may also further strengthen the management of the border tourism market by stipulating that in the case of repeated incidents of tourists participating in gambling activities within the agreed scope of the border tourism cooperation agreement, border tourism activities in the region may be suspended or terminated; nor may travel arrangements be made for tourists to travel to areas prohibited by China.
